    • Create Your Own Success

By: Vinny Ribas Anything worth having is worth working and even fighting for. Yet, I am amazed at the number of artists who just sit and wait for the world to ‘discover them’. The truth is that anyone who has any modicum of success, in any industry, most likely did a whole lot of things that would put them in the way of opportunity. That way,...
    • Conversation Corner with Marthia Sides

By: Andrew Vaughan Marthia Sides is not only one of the more dynamic performers to surface in Nashville, but she's also one of the more interesting. Marthia's from a musical theater and acting career in New York City. When not performing she trained as a stylist and now has numerous celebrity clients. But country music drew Marthia to Nashville where she's...
    • The Imperfect Artist

By: Vinny Ribas I was not a good singer. My pitch was often off. The quality of my voice was fair. I honestly paled when compared to most. I was not a flashy drummer, but I was solid. I was a poor piano player. However, if you wanted a good song arrangement, I was your man. I could make ballads soar with lush or soaring strings. I could accent R&B...
    • Conversation Corner with Paul McCartney

By: Andrew Vaughan It never stops for a Beatle -- a messy divorce, court dealing with iTunes, a new Beatles Monopoly game to promote, more awards and tributes, a very special concert in Israel, a new album project and more Beatles re-issues.  But despite all that, and maybe because of all that, Paul McCartney, legend and icon, does his very best to...
    • Holiday Conversation Corner with Susan Hickman

By: Andrew Vaughan New on the scene, independent country pop singer Susan Hickman has a terrific self-titled CD just released. She may be new, but the 24-year-old beauty is not without credentials; over the past few years she has shared the stage with high-profile acts like Tracy Byrd, Jo Dee Messina, Kevin Fowler, Steve Holy, The Lost Trailers,...
    • Virgin Mobile Free Fest

By: Nikki Spalaris A day after Tropical Storm Danny swept up the Eastern seaboard and did little to no damage, another kind of "hurricane" altogether came through the following day at the Virgin Mobile Free Fest. The name of this one was Richard... as in Branson. On a day that seemed to be especially designed for weather, people, and fun, the...
    • Conversation Corner with JD Souther

By: Andrew Vaughan A key figure in California’s country rock and singer/songwriter movement of the early 70s, JD Souther wrote some of the finest songs of that era, including the Eagles' "Heartache Tonight," "Victim of Love," "New Kid In Town," and "Best of My Love."  He also penned a few classics for one...
    • Holiday Conversation Corner with Mark Wayne Glasmire

By: Andrew Vaughan 1) What is your favorite Holiday memory as a child? "I have been blessed to have nothing but fond memories of Christmas throughout my entire life. Having been born and raised in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, 'The Christmas City,' has always made those memories that much more special. I believe my fondest memories are of the times that...
    • Conversation Corner with Trailer Choir

By: Andrew Vaughan Toby Keith is a smart cookie. He runs his Show Dog empire from an unassuming building a few blocks from Nashville’s famed Music Row, and he clearly knows a thing about A&R. Record companies usually employ an A&R (artist and repertoire, but that’s kind of misleading) Exec to look after their artists and sign new talent...
    • Who Loves Ya, Baby?

By: Vinny Ribas Many artists believe that the more friends that they have on their social networks, the more popular they are. It certainly sounds impressive to say that you have 20,000 friends on your MySpace site. From a numbers standpoint alone, you have certainly increased your odds of finding real fans by your aggressive marketing tactics. But the...

    By: Andrew Hastings

Anyone lucky enough to see Paul McCartney play his first ever concert in Nashville would have been struck by a couple of things. First, the musical genius of the man was startling. Not a bad note all night, not a bad song, and one of the tightest bands ever to grace a Nashville stage – and that’s saying something.
