    • The Cross Between

By: Vinny Ribas You are defined by your look and your sound. Some people will see your picture, watch or hear you in an interview before they ever hear your music. Others will hear your music before they ever see what you look like in pictures or on stage. In both cases, people are making ‘first impression’ judgments before they ever get to know...
    • Conversation Corner with David Nail

By: Andrew Vaughan Some names just stick. When David Nail’s record company offered their debutant up for interview and review I felt sure I knew the name. Sure enough, there on my haphazardly organized bookshelf was a 2002 promo CD labeled, David Nail - an advance album that contained at least two memorable tunes. I guess David himself can solve the...
    • Are You Leaving Money On The Table?

By: Vinny Ribas It may sound impressive to say you have thousands of friends on MySpace. Are you capitalizing on all of that traffic and finding ways to turn it into income? It is certainly great that you’re booked every weekend or every week. Are you making as much money as you could be? There are a lot of tips and tricks that artists use to maximize...
    • Conversation Corner with Tracy Lawrence

By: Andrew Vaughan Nobody could accuse Tracy Lawrence of being boring. Since he burst on the country scene in 1991 as a rough-around-the-edges, 23-year-old "hellion" (Tracy's words!), Lawrence has experienced all the ups and downs of life in the spotlight. There has been an arrest or two, a suspension by a record company, a shooting in a parking...
    • The Imperfect Artist

By: Vinny Ribas I was not a good singer. My pitch was often off. The quality of my voice was fair. I honestly paled when compared to most. I was not a flashy drummer, but I was solid. I was a poor piano player. However, if you wanted a good song arrangement, I was your man. I could make ballads soar with lush or soaring strings. I could accent R&B...
    • Conversation Corner with Pat Metheny

By: Andrew Vaughan Pat Metheny may just be the best known jazz artist currently treading the boards. One of the greatest guitarists of recent times, he has won countless polls as "Best Jazz Guitarist" and awards, including three gold records for (Still Life) Talking, Letter from Home, and Secret Story. He has also won 17 Grammy Awards spread out...
    • Conversation Corner with Al Perkins

By: Andrew Vaughan They don't come much more humble, nor as gifted as Franklin, Tennessee's very own country rock icon, Al Perkins. He may not have grabbed the headlines like Gram Parsons, or Don Henley, or even Sneaky Pete and Clarence White, but make no mistake the steel guitar work of Al Perkins is crucial to the rise of country rock from hippie 60s...
    • Concert Cell Phone Etiquette

By: Nikki Spalaris Okay, everyone... I think it’s time to "have the talk.” What talk, you ask? The etiquette one. This one is not about table manners or wearing white after Labor Day. No, this one is about a nasty addiction. An addiction that is so viral and yet complacent to the norm that we can't see the light at the end of...
    • Conversation Corner with Marthia Sides

By: Andrew Vaughan Marthia Sides is not only one of the more dynamic performers to surface in Nashville, but she's also one of the more interesting. Marthia's from a musical theater and acting career in New York City. When not performing she trained as a stylist and now has numerous celebrity clients. But country music drew Marthia to Nashville where she's...

    By: Andrew Hastings

Anyone lucky enough to see Paul McCartney play his first ever concert in Nashville would have been struck by a couple of things. First, the musical genius of the man was startling. Not a bad note all night, not a bad song, and one of the tightest bands ever to grace a Nashville stage – and that’s saying something.
